My name is Markus and I am 45 years old.

Since 28 years I love old Vespas and have discovered in the meantime also the Ape for me. Bought my first Ape50 aproximately 7 years ago, which was completely rotten and had to be completely renewed including some welding work.

3 years ago bought yet a second Piaggio Ape 50 in  Portugal, when I lived there in an old police van. This I was able to transfer it in 2020 over 3600 kilometers on the road from Faro in Portugal to Kempten in the Allgäu on it´s own wheels.

This is how I lived Vanlife in Portugal

It has become a lifestyle for me. In a world where everything is about bigger, faster, more expensive and more comfortable, the minimalist pragmatism of the Ape is almost a political statement. The slowing down in a world that has become far too fast and the rattling of a 25-year-old two-stroke engine in a consumer and throwaway society blinded by electromobility almost represents a kind of rolling protest.

 I also love the Ape because every time I ride it, it makes me feel like I'm 16 years old again and puts a smile on my face. It is slow, noisy, brakes poorly and is life threatening. I love it!
